What is the Young Eagles program?

The EAA Young Eagles is a program launched in 1992 to give interested young people (ages 8 - 17) an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

What to Expect During Your Young Eagles Flight

When you are ready to go flying, your pilot will take you out to the airplane.  A typical young eagle flight will include the following.

Pre-Flight

Your pilot will tell you about the different parts of the airplane.

Complete a careful "walk around" pre-flight inspection of the airplane.

Discuss the different parts of the airplane that control the flight of the airplane.

You will then get into the airplane.  Your pilot will help you fasten your seat belt and give you further instructions about the equipment in the airplane and about the flight.

After the pilot starts the engine and checks that everything is ready for flight, you taxi out to the runway for takeoff.  Now get ready to have fun!

During Flight

Once in the air, you’ll see the earth and sky in a new and exciting way; experience the wonderful freedom of flight that many people only dream about. If you are like most Young Eagles, you’ll remember this experience for the rest of your life.

You'll see how much different things on the ground look when you see them from an airplane.  This is the fun part.

After an enjoyable 15-20 minute ride you will return to the airport for landing.

After Landing

Once back on the ground you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the flight.  Your pilot will be happy to tell you more about flying and their particular airplane.  Be sure to have your family take a picture of you and your pilot in front of the airplane so you can show your friends.

You will also receive an official Young Eagles Logbook, signed by your personal pilot.

We hope that you will take advantage of the unique opportunity to get a free airplane ride.  We know that you will enjoy it.
